Catamaran model used for global strength analysis. Shell elements model the hull surface. The mesh for structures such as these is easily constructed in Strand7 by using the lofting tools. |

The longitudinal stiffners and riders are modelled with beam elements. The lofting tools automatically align the axes of the longitudinal stiffeners so that they are perpendicular to the hull surface. |
Static loading on the catamaran is modelled using a transient dynamic analysis. Constant equilibrated loads are applied, with sufficient damping to cause the vessel to come to rest quickly. As the transient solver requires a time step, the natural frequency solver is used to determine the period of vibration for relevant modes. The animation shows two modes of vibration. The first is a hogging mode, the second a pitch-connecting moment. |
