Tapered steel towers are common due to simplicity and low cost. These towers are sometimes faceted, but often circular in cross-section. This Webnote covers the basic modelling of a tapered circular tower, comparing a plate mesh with a tapered beam element approach.
The structure is a simple tower which tapers from 2 m diameter at the bottom to 1 m diameter at the top.
Thickness is a constant 10 mm.
