Wind loads are often expressed in terms of force per unit length, and often vary with respect to height. It is quite easy to apply this sort of loading to a beam element using a distributed force, but applying equivalent wind loading to a shell element mesh takes some additional consideration. This document outlines how to apply an equivalent varying wind load to both beam and shell elements. A 1.5 m diameter tower is considered.
