This Webnote discusses deviatoric and hydrostatic stresses in the Strand7 environment. Starting from a basic definition of stress at a point, it describes the separation of the stress into deviatoric and hydrostatic components, and shows the physical application and implication of the deviatoric and hydrostatic stress components. Volumetric strain and bulk modulus are also introduced in the context along the way. These concepts are explained using Strand7 model examples.
