This Webnote examines manual mesh refinement techniques using the Grade Plates and Bricks tool. An important part of building a finite element model is mesh refinement around areas of stress concentration, changes in geometry and other areas of interest. The Grade Plates and Bricks tool can be used to define the transition from a coarse mesh to a fine mesh, whilst ensuring that all elements are fully connected and retain acceptable aspect ratios.
