File Formats: ACIS File
Description
ACIS is a 3D solid modelling language developed by Spatial Corporation used in solid modelling packages. ACIS files must be in the .SAT (Save As Text) format to be imported into Strand7. Export of SAT files is not supported by Strand7.
Supported ACIS Entities
ACIS is a combination solid, surface and wireframe modeller, however, only surface entities (faces) are useful for conversion to Strand7 geometry entities; wireframe entities are not converted.
The following ACIS entities are supported by Strand7:
- exactsur: Exact surface such as plane, sphere, cone torus.
- pipesur: From envelope of Fixed Radius Circle.
- rotsur: Surface of rotation.
- sumsur: Linear sum of two curves.
ACIS surface definitions that are not imported generate a warning in the log file.
Units
SAT files use millimetres for units, and geometry is scaled to the current units of the Strand7 model on import. If the Strand7 model uses no units, geometry data is imported unscaled.
Import Log File Viewer
If warnings or errors are encountered during import, a log file is generated and displayed by the View Log File: Log File Viewer. The log file (with extension .LOG) is saved in the same folder as the SAT file; if the folder is a read-only location, the log file is not generated and Strand7 issues a warning message.
