Geometry Tools: Face from Beam Polygon
Description
Creates faces from selected beam elements that form closed polygons.
Multiple beam polygons can be converted simultaneously as long as they can be considered as separate beam polygons. Polygons are considered as separate if they are unconnected, or the beams do not share the same property or group, depending on the Beam group defines loop and Beam property defines loop options.
Dialog
Edge Merging
Determines when to merge adjacent edges on the generated face.
-
None
No edge merging. Each beam element defines a single edge on the generated face.
-
Tol (deg)
Adjacent edges are merged if the external angle between them is less than or equal to the specified value. Smooth curved edges are generated using a polynomial fit (spline) through the nodes .
Target Face
If set to zero, the generated face will be a flat face on the average plane through the nodes. If set to the number of a valid and visible face, the polygon will be projected onto that face prior to generating the new face.
Beam group defines loop
If set, a beam is only considered part of a beam polygon if it belongs to the same group as the remaining beams. The new face is also placed in the same group.
Face group
The group to which the inserted face is added. See Global: Groups.
Beam property defines loop
If set, a beam is only considered part of a beam polygon if it is assigned the same property type as the remaining beams. The new face is also assigned the same property type.
Face Property
Assigns the selected property type to the generated face.
Only applicable if Beam property defines loop is not set.
Delete beams
If set, the beam elements are deleted after the face is generated.
