Mesh Tools: Slice on Plane
Description
Defines a series of cutting planes parallel to a Cartesian coordinate plane that may be used to
- split selected beam elements that intersect the cutting planes, and
- create new beam elements on selected plates that intersect the cutting planes.
Multiple cutting planes may be defined, starting from the origin and separated by increments specified along an axis of the selected coordinate system.
Dialog
Coordinate System
A Cartesian UCS that defines the plane.
Beams
If set, selected beam elements will be split at the cutting planes.
Plates
If set, beam elements will be created on plates that intersect the cutting planes.
Dir
Slicing direction.
Each number corresponds to the first, second or third axis of the coordinate system.
Property Type
Property type of beams created on plates.
Repeat
Number of cutting plates to produce.
Increment
Distance between cutting planes in the specified direction.
Common Uses
Often useful for generating beams that act as stiffeners on plate meshes.
It can also be used to recover lofting lines from existing mesh, particularly from coarse or low quality mesh, so that the mesh can be rebuilt.
