SOLVERS: Results

Description

Selects the results to be calculated by the solver and stored to the result file.

Node and element result quantities are listed. Irrelevant result quantities are greyed out. Use the checkboxes to select the result quantities to calculate and save to the result file.

Note that displacements do not appear in the list as these are always calculated and saved in the result files. Similarly, node temperature does not appear on the list for the heat transfer solvers as these are always calculated and saved in the result files.

CALCULATE / Defaults

Sets all settings to factory default values or to previously saved user settings.

If Save as User Defaults is selected, the current settings are saved as the user settings and become the default settings for any new models created. See Preferences: Folder Locations.

Selections

Selects all, clears all, or inverts all result quantities.

Result Quantities

Node Reaction

If set, forces and moments at nodes are reported. Besides reactions at restrained nodes and at face supported nodes, reactions at unrestrained nodes are calculated; these are useful as a way of checking unbalanced forces in linear and nonlinear solutions.

Element Node Force

If set, the equilibrium forces and moments for every element and link are calculated and stored in the result file. These can be used to generate Free Body Diagrams of isolated areas of the model, and form the basis of the results required by the Reaction MPL link to produce reaction summations (see Insert: Reaction MPL).

Node Inertia Force

If set, forces and moments exerted by mass resisting accelerating motions are reported. This is available for Harmonic Response and Spectral Response analysis.

Node Velocity/Acceleration

If set, velocity and acceleration are reported for dynamic analysis. Note that these are required, in addition to the restart file (SOLVERS: Files), to enable the restart of a Linear and Nonlinear Transient Dynamic analysis.

Velocity and acceleration results are always available for vs Frequency Harmonic Response analysis.

Beam Force/Moment/Stress

If set, beam axial force, shear forces, moments, torque and linear stresses, which are derived from them, are reported.

Beam Strain/Curvature/Energy

If set, beam strain, curvature, and energy are reported.

Beam Fibre Results (MNL and CNL)

If set, beam stresses due to nonlinear material and/or creep are reported.

Plate Force/Moment/Stress

If set, plate forces and moments are reported. Linear stresses are calculated from these forces and moments.

Plate Strain/Curvature/Energy

If set, strains and energy are reported.

Brick Stress

If set, stresses are reported.

Brick Strain/Energy

If set, strains and energy are reported.

Link Node Force

If set, the equilibrium node forces on links are reported.

Beam / Plate / Brick Force Pattern / Stress Pattern / Strain Pattern / Curvature Pattern

If set, forces, stresses, strains and curvatures derived from the mode shapes are reported for the selected entity type in linear buckling and natural frequency analyses. Note that these are only patterns where the magnitudes are not meaningful.

Node / Beam / Plate / Brick / Link Node Flux

If set, heat flux results are reported for the selected entity type.
