Extrude Tools: Common Controls
Several controls appear frequently on the extrude tool dialog. These controls are referred to as common controls and may appear on the Parameters or Targets tabs.
Controls
The progressive increment of the property type for each of the extruded entities.
For example, if the source entity of property type 1 is extruded three times with a property increment of 2, the first extrusion is assigned property type 3, the second extrusion is assigned property type 5 and the third extrusion is assigned property type 7.
The property increment may be a positive or negative integer. If the resulting property evaluates to a negative value, a property number of 0 will be assigned.
The number of extrusions to create.
Must be greater than or equal to one.
Options that alter the handling of source entities. Source entities are the selected nodes and elements to be extruded.
-
Leave
Keeps source entities at original positions after extruding.
-
Delete
Deleted the source entities after extruding. Source nodes will not be deleted if they are used by other elements.
-
Copy
Keeps source entities at original positions; for each extrusion, makes copies of the source entities at the extruded positions.
-
Move
Deletes the source entities at the original position and placed them at the final extruded position. Source nodes will not be deleted if they are used by other elements.
The entity type of newly created entities as a result of extruding nodes can be one of the following:
-
Beam2
Two-noded beam element, see Beam Elements: Element Types.
-
Beam3
Three-noded beam element. Reference node is positioned at half-span of extrusion. See Beam Elements: Element Types
-
M/Slave
Master-slave link, see Entities: Links. When using Extrude Tools: by Projection to Point, a single multi-point link can be generated by setting the As MPL option.
-
Pinned Link
Pinned link, see Entities: Links. When using Extrude Tools: by Projection to Point, a single multi-point link can be generated by setting the As MPL option.
-
Rigid Link
Rigid link, see Entities: Links. When using Extrude Tools: by Projection to Point, a single multi-point link can be generated by setting the As MPL option.
-
Shrink
Shrink link, see Entities: Links.
Target group
The group to which the extruded beams are added. See Target group.
Beam Property Type
The property type number of the extruded beam elements.
The dropdown list allows for the quick selection of an existing property type, and is synchronised with the Number field: selecting an item from the dropdown list automatically populates the Number field. Conversely, changing the Number field automatically sets the dropdown list. If a property number entered in the Number field does not yet exist, the dropdown list is cleared.
The entity type of newly created entities as a result of extruding beams can be one of the following:
-
Quad4
Four-noded plate element.
-
Quad8
Eight-noded plate element. Mid-side nodes are positioned at the midpoint of each extrusion.
-
Quad9
Nine-noded plate element. Mid-side nodes are positioned at the midpoint of each extrusion.
The entity type of newly created entities as a result of extruding plates or brick faces can be one of the following:
-
Faces to Bricks
Plates and brick faces become bricks.
-
Edges to Plates
Plate and brick edges become plates.
If set, attributes applied to the source plate edges are extruded into equivalent brick face attributes if possible, when plates are extruded into bricks. The following plate edge attributes can be extruded:
- Plate Edge Pressure becomes Brick Face Pressure
- Plate Edge Shear becomes Brick Face Shear
- Plate Edge Normal Shear becomes Brick Face Shear
- Plate Edge Support becomes Brick Face Support
- Plate Edge Global Pressure becomes Brick Face Global Pressure
- Plate Edge Attachment (planar direction only) becomes Brick Face Attachment
- Plate Edge Convection becomes Brick Face Convection
- Plate Edge Radiation becomes Brick Face Radiation
- Plate Edge Flux becomes Brick Face Flux
