Import: ANSYS File

Description

Imports an ANSYS finite element and/or geometry file with file extension of .dat or .cdb.

Dialog

Name

Opens the file dialog to locate and select the ANSYS file to be imported. Note that files can also be imported by using drag-and-drop directly onto the Strand7 model window or startup screen (see Strand7 Interface: Startup Screen).

Format

Specifies the format of the imported file.

Array Parameters

Specifies how array parameters are interpreted when re-dimensioned.

Import Load Case Files

If set, load case files with file path and name specified under Load Case File are imported.

Import IGES Entities

If set, IGES geometry entities within the ANSYS file are imported.

Fix Element Connectivity

If set, node connectivities of collapsed elements are adjusted. For example, hexahedral elements in ANSYS that are collapsed to represent tetrahedral elements are converted to Strand7 tetrahedral elements.

Remove Duplicate Properties

If set, elements of the same type (i.e., beams, plates and bricks), with identical but duplicate properties are assigned to the same property.

Load Case File

File path and name of load case files. This is only required if then Import Load Case Files option is set.

Reset File Units

Resets the units of the imported ANSYS file while keeping its dimensional values unchanged.

This dialog is provided after confirming an ANSYS file and its import options. The dialog shows the units used in the ANSYS file and provides options to reset these. The imported file is converted to the current units of the Strand7 model based on the units selected.
