Plate Attributes: Face Shear Stress

Description

Assigns uniform face shear stress to selected plate elements using two orthogonal components in the local x-y axis system of the plate.

Shear stress acts uniformly over the plate and is applied at the mid-surface of the plate, so it is not affected by the plate thickness. A positive shear stress component acts in the direction of the positive local axis.

The magnitude of the resultant force is equal to shear stress × plate mid-surface area.

In nonlinear analysis, the direction of the load will always be based on the current plate surface as the plate deflects and deforms.

Shear stress attributes are load case dependent.
